Blogging for scrapbookers, Prompt 1
Hello out there! I'm back home after a great trip to Austin. I'll post about our trip later, but for now let's just say I ate a lot of this:
and drank a lot of these:
I'm still recovering!
I'm currently taking Shimelle's Blogging for Scrapbookers class. If you found my blog through that class, hello and welcome! If you have the time, please leave me a comment and introduce yourself! Since I was away last week, I didn't have a chance to blog about any of the prompts, but I will try and catch up with some of them over the next few days.
One of the things Shimelle encouraged us to think about was our intentions for our blog and the class. I think mine are pretty simple:
- Blog more frequently.
- Expand the topics of my posts. Right now I mainly use my blog as a place to post pictures of my scrapbook layouts and cards. The problem with that is when there is a lull in my scrapbooking, there's also a lull in my blogging!
- Connect with like minded scrapbookers and bloggers!

Austin!
We arrived in Austin yesterday afternoon and were welcomed by beautiful, sunny weather in the 70s. Much needed after the winter we have had in the northeast!
We checked into our motel, and then ventured out to the South Congress (SoCo) area. Got some nourishment at Hopdoddy's Burger Bar (magic shroom burger was delicious!). Energy restored, we wandered around SoCo, checking out the import & Antique stores & the cool food trucks (may have to return today to buy a cupcake!) and ended the evening at The Continental Club to catch a set by Toni Price. We had planned on heading over to Antone's to hear more music, but we were too pooped! Maybe tonight.
Not sure what today's plans are...hubby is still sleeping, and I am in need of coffee!
More later!

Change of Plans
Right now, I'm enjoying a week off for Spring Break at the college where I teach. I had planned on spending a quiet week at home, getting caught up on various things as well as enjoying some down-time. On Saturday, my husband found out that he was able to take a few days off of work as well, and managed to score some inexpensive plane tickets to Austin, TX, so we are completely changing plans and taking a mini-vacation. This is quite unusual for me, since I am a "planner" not a "let's wing it" kind of person! Since he used to live in Austin, I am letting him make all the arrangements, most of which revolve around live music and barbecue! He's excited about showing off all his former stomping grounds, and I'm looking forward to this impromptu getaway. I've only been to Austin twice before, once 20 years ago (egad!) when I was in college to visit a friend, and six years ago with my husband to attend his friend's wedding. For this visit, I hope to have a a bit more time to explore this city. If any of you out there are from the area, let me know what the "must-do" activities are!
Fortunately, I figured out how to post to my blog using my iPhone, so I hope to still participate (somewhat!) in Shimelle's Blogging for Scrapbookers class from the road. Expect lots of barbecue pictures in the days to come!

Blogging for Scrapbookers
I am so excited Shimelle is doing a second live run of Blogging for Scrapbookers!
I missed the original class in Fall 2009, but I did purchase the course in January to do it as a self-paced class. I wasn't very successful following the prompts on my own, so I am glad she's doing this live run. Even better? It starts while I am on Spring Break, so I should have plenty of time to keep up!
Off to check out the class materials!

Hello, Spring Break!
Ahhhh, a 10-day reprieve from my 75 mile commute! Just what the doctor ordered!
The past month has been a busy one, professionally. My classes are keeping me typically busy, but I like the variety of courses that I get to teach this semester: Psychology of Women, Psychology Colloquium (for first year students), and Junior Research Seminar. I'm also supervising several Independent Studies and two Honors Theses. Those are definitely the most rewarding...I love working with motivated students who get excited about research! They are both collecting their data through on-line surveys, and I can't wait to see their results!
My other big professional time-sucker was helping to coordinate a national psychology conference in Philadelphia. Months and months of hard work, but so rewarding. Good thing, since I've committed to this position for two more years! Best part is, I get to work with these great women:
So I'm looking forward to a relaxing Spring Break. No plans to go anywhere, just happy to spend time at home. I'm hoping to get caught up on some of my Big Picture Classes (Yesterday & Today, Mastering Manual Mode), finish my December Daily album, as well as edit and post some layouts I managed to complete at a crop last month.
Thanks for stopping by!
