10 on the 10th

Another month gone by already? That means it's time for Shimelle's 10 on the 10th again!

This month, I bring you another 10 crafty projects. Mostly layouts, with a card and a tag thrown in! Most of these were completed at a recent crop at my local scrapbook store, The Papercraft Clubhouse. Love that place, so had to give them a shout out!

Look at me! I'm scrapbooking!

It's been a while. After a wonderful marathon weekend retreat back in July where I made lots and lots of pages, I've done very little.  I made a few pages in August, but still haven't added the journaling, so they sit unfinished on my desk.

Enter Allison Davis' Sketch Support Class over at My Creative Classroom.  I've loved Allison's sketches for a while now, so signing up for the class was a no brainer.  Plus, some of my online friends from Scrap Central at iVillage were also signing up, which made it that much better.

Our first assignment was to create a layout based on the sketch using a "simple" approach where you follow the sketch exactly, and another layout where you use an "enhanced" or "extreme" method and use the sketch more as a jumping off point, but modify things as you see fit.

Here's my "simple" layout:

This one features Basic Grey "Hello Luscious" papers from a 6x6 pad...I covered up the seams with photos and embellishments...need to remember that!

And here's my "extreme" layout (I completely bypassed the "enhanced" method!)

This one uses quite old My Mind's Eye paper (anyone remember "Bohemia"?). Glad to use up some of my stash!

I love that I've got two completely different looking  layouts with just one sketch. If you're interested in the class, another session will be starting up in November.

Counterfeit Kit Blog Hop: Random Facts at 40

The challenge this month was to use our kits to create a page or mini album all about ourselves with at least one "I" statement on it.  Here's my page, based on a PageMaps sketch from the Spring Issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today:

I knew I wanted to create a layout about me at 40, so I decided to play off the numbers theme and count up some important factoids about my life so far.

Everything came from my original kit except for the letter stickers...dug into my stash for them!  I enjoyed playing with the Basic Grey Elements stickers...it was fun layering them and embellishing with brads.

Today I wanted to share with you the Fathers Day cards I made for my dad and father-in-law.

It was a pretty simple card...kraft cardstock base with rounded corners, with layers of patterned paper (that was from deep in my stash of scraps!)

I cut apart a Hero Arts "Happy Day" stamp so I could stamp it in a straight line with a gap in the middle.

Then I filled in the gap with small white Basic Grey chipboard letters that I colored blue with my copics.

June Counterfeit Kit Challenge

I missed the May Counterfeit Kit Challenge (just too busy at work!) so I am looking forward to playing along again this month.

The Inspiration Kit for June is by Burlap and Buttercups. Very pretty and summery! You can see the original kit here.  Click here to see what the "Masters of Forgery" created for their kits.

I did a pretty straightforward copy of the kit. I didn't have any Basic Grey "Hello Luscious" but I did have some papers from their recent "Sweet Threads" line, so I used those along with their alphabet stickers. I also threw in a few sheets of patterned paper from Little Yellow Bicycle's Elizabeth Park line, some old Creative Imaginations scalloped, lined paper, and an old Making Memories die-cut scallop paper.  All the patterned paper is rounded out by 6 sheets of Bazzill in pink, blue, green, yellow, off-white, and kraft.

Last month I went overboard with the embellishments, so I tried not to go crazy this month.  I included some old BG painted brads, green pushpins, yellow ribbon, old chipboard frames, and a set of Jenni Bowlin butterflies. I may also make some counterfeit bloomers using the patterned paper and my trusty Big Shot die cut machine.

Basic Grey Cards

Last May I went to the Scrapbook Expo, and took a class where we made three layouts using paper from the Basic Grey Sugar Rush line.  I saved the leftovers, and finally put them to good use last weekend, making a bunch of cards. I kept things pretty simple...scraps of kraft cardstock for the base, a few pieces of patterned paper, outlined with a white gel pen. For most cards, I added a Hero Arts "Thanks" stamped in black or embossed in white plus a diecut or hand-cut accent, and called it done!

 

Added a Hero Arts flower stamp colored with Copics on this one.

Went crazy and handwrote the greeting on this one!

Broke out the BG chipboard letters for this one.

Card Frenzy #1

Yikes, it's been a while since I've posted anything! Although I'm on summer vacation, some recent staff changes in my department have been keeping me busy, as I've had to pick up some new courses for next semester.  This is also the point in the summer where I look at my optimistic to-do list I made at the beginning of the summer and realize I haven't accomplished much! Only one month left to get it all done before classes begin!

I have done a little crafting these past few weeks, primarily cards.  I pulled out a lot of old patterned paper that I knew I wasn't going to use on a scrapbook layout, and decided to put it to good use on a card.  Here are a bunch I made with some old Basic Grey lines. Anyone remember the Blush, Phoebe, and Romani lines? Here they are as cards!

Three Cards and a Layout

Ahh, once again one month has passed between posts! That's not to say I haven't been playing in my scrap space, I just haven't been uploading pictures of my creations in a timely fashion!

Here's some of what I created in June:

The first card was for my cousin, in celebration of his high school graduation. Sorry for the fuzzy picture!  I think the paper is some old My Mind's Eye that my online friend Karen sent me years ago.  (I already used the paper on a LO a while back...glad to find a use for the scraps!)

This next card was for a friend who needed a pick me up.  I love how it came out...I hope the bright orange and green cheered her up! Paper is from deep in my stash of old Basic Grey, stamp is from Hero Arts.

And this last one was for a friend who is retiring and moving to Puerto Rico.  Lucky her! I dry emossed the card with a Tim Holtz die, then inked it with some distress ink.  The patterned paper in Basic Grey.

And finally, here's the LO!  This will go in my People We Love album.  Paper is by Scenic Route.

Birthday Cards

Since my first post seems to be a success, let's try another!  I've been adding card making to my crafy repertoire these days.  It's a good way to use up my paper scraps, and it gives me a chance to use some of the cool new Hero Arts stamps I've purchased recently! I made these using Basic Grey's June Bug paper, some silk flowers, and a Hero Arts stamp, which I heat embossed in white.
